Forum - Possible New Job Classes: Summoner and Necromancer

Overview > Mabinogi > General Discussion > Possible New Job Classes: Summoner and Necromancer
[#1275]

Whenever people think of magic, there are always 2 types that are obvious and controversial. The necromancer and the summoner. A basic description of both classes is clear just by reading the names.

While, to a degree, every player is a summoner once the get their first pet; it doesn't change the fact that this isn't a fighting class in and of itself. True, when a pet is summoned, you can give it basic commands in and out of combat, but what about combo skills between a summoned creature and the player? That would be where the summoner class would come in. This class would be most beneficial to new players who don't have many summonable pets but would also have advantages for veterans. Yes, there is the divine link ability, which boosts a pets' resources and power, but is that really a combo attack? The summoner combo attack I'm suggesting is something like the skill chain of the fighter class. Plus, for all players, they will be able to use any animal they tame as a summonable companion in addition to a summoned pet. However, only one tamed pet can be active at any given time, like summons. This will also give new uses for the existing taming skill as well. The player will forge a special magical contract with a tamed beast and be allowed to summon the pact-bound creature at will once the pact is forged. Also, special combo attacks would be available when a summoned creature, pact bound or summoned pet, is active. As to what these skills are gonna be, I'm still kinda working on that. However, a pact bound summon will be able to be used in addition to a summoned pet in combat for even greater combo power. True, pact bound pets wouldn't have a summon ability like certain pets (the pegasus, dragon, bone dragon, etc), but they'll have the ability to learn new combo skills as the summoner skill ranks increase. This job class would give a whole new combat style to the ever changing Mabi world.

Yes, I am aware that the necromancer class has kinda been introduced way back in generation 2. However, this class hasn't been introduced as a playable job class as of yet. I am also aware that this class would have limited combat based abilities when compared to other classes. It would be kinda like a modified version of the puppeteer class where you can temporarily resurrect enemies to fight for the necromancer. And, the higher the necromancers' skills and knowledge of the craft get, the more "zombies" a necromancer can have on the field. This job class would clearly be OverPowered at the higher ranks but wouldn't be of much help in PvP combat. The necromancer will also be the only one who can heal any "zombies" they summon as traditionally any normal healing magic would hurt the undead. This would require unique dark healing skills to help keep any "zombies" from dying too quickly in combat as well as some dark magic attack spells that would work on debuffing and even poisoning the enemies. This job class would be combining several different job class aspects into one dark class, kinda like how a Paladin can be changed into a Dark Knight. This class would only really be available once certain requirements are met (like having at least apprentice rank in bard, cleric, puppetry, combat alchemy and mage classes). Not a difficult requirement, I know, but it's just an example of the first Unlockable job class in the Mabi world. It'd be kinda like the hidden talents in this respect.

Any feedback on these possibilities would be welcome, whether it's about possible skills for either class beyond the obvious or your opinions about how feasible these two new job classes would be in the Mabi world. I thank you for your time in reading my post and hope we can all work together to make Mabi even better than it already is.
